Meet Ravi Jetshan, Creative Director at Ravior

We spoke with Ravi Jetshan, the Creative Director of Ravior to get some insights into the company’s journey to become a recognized name in the field of Jewelry.
Ravior is a family business, how and why did you decide to enter the jewelry industry?  

We are in this craft since nine generations, originally from Gujrat and as a brand since 1982 in Mauritius. Therefore, I could say that it is in the blood.

This of course implies a certain work ethics and transmission of a precious savoir–faire.

We were told that there is a very interesting story behind the name “Ravior” . Can you tell us more it?

My father, Souresh Jetshan, is the one who chose the name RAVIOR.

The name Ravior is an elision of ‘Ravi’ meaning ‘Sun’ in Sanskrit and ‘Or’ meaning gold/golden in French, thus forming ‘Ravior’ (Golden Sun)

Creativity and Innovation are two important aspects for your brand. How do you ensure that those two elements are reflected in each new collection?

It simply starts in the way we think of a jewel, which allows us to create pieces. We go from traditional handcraft to 3D design and print. 

It is present in the choice of materials as well, whether it is titanium, gold, ebony, silver and brass. We recently added a fluorescent touch to our Hope Collection by calling it Hope – Glow in the dark. 

If it is a special order, the first thing for us is to listen attentively to our clients’ needs. Our savoir-faire guides us to create jewels with your own handwriting, your child’s sketches and even more.

We believe that jewels are tangible emotions and that is the key.

 

Ravior was first established in 1982.  39 years later, it is still a renowned jewelry brand in the Mauritian market. To what do you owe the success of the company?

First, it is the trust of our clients. We believe that our best marketing is our happy clients. 

We are also thankful to our dedicated and passionate team at the workshop as well as sales & marketing. 

We give back our success through our HOPE collection to a local NGO TIPA Mauritius that aims at addressing the learning obstacles of vulnerable children by developing innovative teaching strategies. Through the sales of these jewels, we remit 10% of the revenues to TIPA to help them continue their commendable mission.

Our work has also won national and international awards.

As ever expanding beyond horizons, our collections have been exhibited worldwide, namely in Copenhagen (Denmark), Las Vegas and Place Vendome in Paris. We make sure to upgrade our creations by using up-to-date techniques thus widening our knowledge and clients’ options.

Is there any future trend that you predict for the jewelry industry in Mauritius?

We have noticed that people who want to get a jewel tend to go from a classic to a bespoke jewel. Here, we are talking about a special engravings, fingerprints, drawings/sketches, and client’s own handwriting among other designs. Personalization also means a mélange of metals and usage of more ethic gems. 

We are actually working on a collection for 2023 that will imply nanotech and health.

… and what is Ravior doing to keep up with this trend?

The answer to this is simple – We keep the embers of our passion alive.
